Please consider taking this survey on Highway safety issues. Its a good opportunity to tell researchers and planners your thoughts and ideas!
Coalition Opposed to the West Waukesha Bypass
Please consider responding to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation survey below. It will help them establish the scope of the upcoming Strategic Highway Safety Plan (an important document for setting transportation safety priorities and allocating transportation safety funding). See link below (more information in the messages below).
Traffic Safety Council members,
As discussed at the last TSC meeting, on behalf of Director Pabst, below is the invitation to take the survey to assist with development of the next SHSP. Please take a moment to take the survey and send this out to any partners to gather their input and feedback. Feel free to forward Director Pabst’s letter to individuals, groups, and organizations. The more input the Department receives, the better.
Dear Highway Safety Partner:
On behalf of the Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s Traffic Safety Council, I invite you to participate in the development of Wisconsin’s Strategic Highway Safety Plan (SHSP) for 2017-2019. The SHSP will guide Wisconsin’s efforts over the next several years in our ongoing mission to continuously improve the safe and efficient movement of people and goods in the Badger State. Federal law requires all states to develop and implement multi-year SHSP’s. Wisconsin’s first SHSP was developed in 2000, several years prior to the federal mandate. Wisconsin has completed several generations of SHSP and our latest version is available online at:
So what can you do to help develop the next iteration of our multi-year SHSP? Simply put: We need a few minutes of your time to share your opinion about Wisconsin’s safety priorities. In partnership with the Traffic Operations & Safety Laboratory at UW-Madison, the Traffic Safety Council has developed an on-line survey. We invite you to complete this survey at your earliest convenience. The SHSP survey can be accessed on-line at the following web address until April 28th:
Your survey responses will remain anonymous and will go a long way to help develop the 2017-19 SHSP.
If you experience any technical problems accessing or completing the on-line survey, please contact:

Highway Builders are talking.
Highway Builders and Waukesha politicians think that resistance to the West Waukesha Bypass is shrinking and that our chance of stopping this damaging unnecessary Highway Expansion is slipping away.
We must – and can – prove them wrong.
We must work together NOW to stop the Bypass.
We still have matching funds to earn! Our legal action timeline has now been set. Time is running short.
Will you help our campaign run strong?
Here's our lawsuit's schedule directly from our lawyers:
Plaintiffs initial brief due 11/21/2016.
Defendants initial brief due 12/23/2016.
Plaintiffs reply brief due 1/27/2017.
Any reply brief is due 2/27/2017 but only with prior leave of the Court.
EVERY DOLLAR YOU GIVE WILL BE MATCHED Donate HERE
The Highway Building Machine is pumping millions of dollars into the Bypass, determined to build this destructive highway regardless of Waukesha residents wishes. Opposition to the Bypass has always been huge but Waukesha Highway Planners and Builders are good at what they do. They do what they want, regardless of public opinion. They roll on through our neighborhoods, wetlands, environmental corridors, and farmland and leave a trail of destruction, water, light and air pollution, and more auto deaths and injuries! Our Politicians are eager to help them, they're used to getting their way too!
All we have on our side are grassroots supporters like YOU.
Pitch in $25, $50, $75 or more — Let’s show these Bypass Planners and Builders that we're ready to fight for our neighborhoods, our environment, and our quality of life!
Thank you for your incredible support,
Coalition Opposed to the West Waukesha Bypass

Wales Main Street Green Market – October 1, 2016
The Waukesha County Green Team will host another Green Market on Saturday, October 1st from 9am to 1pm on Main Street in Wales. This event is free and open to the public.
The Main Street Green Market provides a venue for local vendors and community organizations to showcase their green products and services, and serves as a gathering place where neighbors come together to learn how to live healthier, more sustainable lives.
Dozens of exhibitors will be on hand to demonstrate simple ways community members can adopt sustainable technologies and practices such as composting, prairie restoration, backyard beekeeping, chicken rearing, solar energy, and rain barrels; as well as ways to get involved in local ‘green’ initiatives by engaging with representatives from local land trusts, wildlife rehabilitation centers, hiking and biking groups, and school programs.
Among items for sale will be potted plants, local honey, bath and body items, clothing, fair trade gifts, woven Alpaca products, and yard art from local vendors.
Special Presentations will be held in the large tent and will include: Environmentally Friendly Lawn Care Tips, Match Game! Native and Non-Native Plants, and Seasons of Beekeeping. Yoga 4 All will offer a free Yoga class starting at 10:30am. For additional information and a full schedule of events visit the Waukesha County Green Team website: www.waukeshacountygreenteam.org.
The Main Street Green Market is organized by the Wales Branch of the Waukesha County Green Team – a volunteer, non-profit organization. We envision a future when Waukesha County is a vibrant green community – a reality to be created and shared by everyone.

We’re just a bit short of a modest summer fundraising goal. We're close enough though, that your contribution could be the one that puts us over the top.
But let me show you why the donation you make today matters so much. It's hard to look at this partial list of damage the West Waukesha Bypass will cause.
- Destruction of the Pebble Creek Environmental Corridor
- More Dangerous to drivers due to more large truck traffic
- More Dangerous to Children due to higher speeds and more traffic
- More Sprawl, just look at the East Waukesha Bypass
- More Air Pollution
- More Water Pollution
- More Light Pollution
- Destruction of Farmland
- Waste of $56+ million
We can't stop fighting the unnecessary West Waukesha Bypass. Our federal lawsuit is alive and well. And, it may be our last chance to stop this huge highway expansion project. We can't afford to take care of the highways we have, and yet the DOT wants to build a $56 million highway that won't help anything. Our "No Build, Improve" alternative would improve HwyTT/Merrill Hills Road at a fraction of the cost.
It would be shame if we fought this battle all they way to the Federal Court and then ran out of funds at a critical time. Several recent developments help our case! Won't you help NOW too? Every dollar your donate goes 100% into our Bypass fight!
Make a contribution to our West Waukesha Bypass Legal Fund
We're getting close to the end game. We can make a difference! We can win this! And you can be part of it!
The stakes are too high to stand on the sidelines. That’s why your contribution matters so much right now. I have been fighting this highway since 2010 and I won't give up now. And, I know that you believe in our fight. Can you step up right now and make a donation...large or small...$5 or $50, everything will help!
